Volunteering

“I'm happy to say Positively UK is providing structured support for volunteers, countless opportunities to get more involved, and a volunteer development programme. I always remind my employer that they got my Mental Health First Aid training for free as it was provided through Positively UK.”

"Volunteering as a guest speaker gave me self-confidence and boosted my self-esteem. It made me realise my true abilities and how much I have grown from being a shy person to the strong person I am today."

Volunteer and a Peer Mentor

Positively UK would not be where it is today without our valuable volunteers. Volunteers bring new skills, interests, qualities, and perspectives to develop the services we provide and support the staff to meet our project and strategic aims in a wide range of areas and activities.
We seek to ensure that all our volunteers are properly integrated into our organisation and able to meaningfully contribute to our work. By volunteering your time, you can make a difference to the lives of people living with HIV who we support, and the wider community. We are committed to help volunteers build on the skills and experiences that you may already have.

What does volunteering involve?

There are many ways to volunteer with Positively UK. You can choose from our range of roles available below or we may be able to create a different opportunity to share your skills and knowledge with our participants. All our volunteers go through an interview, induction and training process before starting their journey with us.

Areas of Volunteering

Our volunteering roles are grouped in 5 main areas. The roles which we are looking to recruit may change, according to need and availability. Please follow our web site home page or social media accounts for volunteering roles open to recruitment.

Services, peer support and developing people: All our ongoing projects to support people living with HIV are categorised in this group. For example, 1-to-1 peer mentoring, clinical outreach, group support and social sessions. This may include opportunities such as facilitating our workshops, becoming a trainer or supporting the volunteer recruitment process.

Fundraising and awareness: Raising funds is very important to keep our services running. Potential activities could involve seeking out new fundraising opportunities, taking part in campaigns, helping our team at our informational stalls, outreach, and health promotion in public, supporting special events etc.

Marketing and communications: Helping our team to update and execute marketing plans, our social media channels, creating posts, newsletters as well as coming up with ideas for future projects and services to offer.

Skills based volunteering: We encourage our volunteers to use their skills and qualifications in ways that engage and support our participants. That could mean supporting our welfare advice service or offering different workshops (nutrition, yoga, mindfulness etc.) to our participants and volunteers.

Administrative support: Includes helping our office manager and taking on administration or reception tasks.

Please note that we are only able to recruit volunteers living in the United Kingdom.
