aged 50+

If you're aged over 50 and living with HIV we're here to help ...

We provide a range of activities for people aged 50 and over. Whether it’s about coming to terms with a new diagnosis, keeping up to date with treatment or feeling better about yourself – we can offer the support that is right for you.

Whether it’s coming to terms with a new diagnosis, managing treatments, dealing with sex and relationships, feeling better about yourself, or you just want someone to talk to – we can offer support that’s right for you. We probably know what you’re going through because we’ve been there too. All our frontline staff and mentors are living with HIV.

Advances in the treatment of HIV have transformed it from life-threatening disease to chronic treatable condition. This has resulted in a large growing population of older adults with HIV. Nowadays almost 40% of all people living with HIV in the UK are ageing people.

We are there if you want to talk to someone – we probably know what you’re going through because we’ve been there too. We are positive. We can help. Our Aged to Perfection list offers useful resources for people ageing with HIV.

Discover the hidden gems of Kings Cross through our Seeds Project

Have you considered joining a social horticulture club? Come and experience the therapeutic effect of gardening in a peer-led environment. The gardening centre hosts our open-air yoga and exercise classes too. Later in the year we will meet regularly for cooking workshops, nutrition advice and mental health workshops.

The Seeds is a horticulture wellbeing project designed and run by the experienced horticulturalist and garden designer Virginia Cucchi. The project is a partnership between Positively UK, The Food Chain, YMCA Positive Health and The Calthorpe Community Gardens, where people gather for regular gardening sessions, outdoor gym classes, picnics and nutrition talks.

After my HIV diagnosis 10 years ago, I shut down and turned from a sociable mid-aged man into a grumpy old loner. For years my only joy were my walks through the East London water reservoirs. But this summer I am celebrating life. The gardening and gym sessions put meaning in my life again; I feel healthier and happier. I met other people with HIV, some of them come to my house for a tea and chat. Having no one to talk to for weeks is really hard, but look at me now!
